Today we were fortunate enough to be invited by the Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children's Rehabilitation Center to Sea Life Park to experience it's Dolphin Discovery tour.  Kyra was one of the few lucky kids to take part in this pilot program that allows kids from the Rehab Department to encounter and interact with these friendly animals from the sea.  Kyra as well as Sierr...

Kyra, Tracy and Sierra had the times of their lives when they were chosen to ride aboard the Target Sleigh during the Annual Kapolei Christmas Light Parade.  It was so great to see Kyra as she smiled and waved to the thousands of people that had lined the streets.  Much mahalo to Jon and Geraine as well as the entire team at Target for making our ohana feel so special and loved....

Kyra resumed her p/t and for the first time since September her o/t.  She has been given 6 sessions of each until the end of the year by HMSA.  We hope that this will be enough to get her back to her condition before she got sick.  She continues to improve each and every day.  Way to go Kyra!

In early October we sent out some e-mails to our leaders in Washington, telling them about Kyra's remarkable story, and some of the struggles we have encoutered through it all with regards to health insurance.  Senators Daniel Akaka and Daniel Inouye responded with heartfelt letters for Kyra in her recovery.  Congressman Neil Abercrombie wrote this email to u...

Tuesday November 24, 2009

They did it again!  HMSA denied Kyra anymore p/t for the upcoming month of December.  This means that any therapy that we choose to have will be out of pocket...$400 per hour.  Kyra is doing so much better that we can't stop now, no matter how much it cost.  We will just have to find a way to do it, even if it's only once a week.  We are currently seeking an alternative w...

Monday November 9, 2009

For about a month now Kyra has complained from time to time about her back being sore.  We brought this to the attention of her doctor and an x-ray was taken of her back.  We were told that Kyra has a compression fracture of her spine probably as a result of the bones in her back getting soft from the steroids.  She was seen by an orthopedic surgeon and told that in time it will prob...
